The victims were identified as Vigneswaran, 28, a coconut picker from Kinathukadavu, Singayanputhur area, and Vishnu, a second-grade student at a government school.

Vigneswaran, who was separated from his wife and children, took his relative Prabu's son Vishnu to the quarry for a swim. As they were bathing in the stagnant water, they suddenly moved to a deeper area and began struggling for their lives.

Hearing their cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene and managed to pull both individuals out of the water.
