Tirupur: The auction for a weekly vegetable market in Kongalnagaram Panchayat, near Udumalpet in Tirupur district, was postponed indefinitely following a verbal dispute among bidders. The incident, which occurred on the day of the auction, has created a stir in the local community.

On August 15, during a gram sabha meeting, a resolution was passed to conduct a vegetable market near the Government Higher Secondary School in Kongalnagaram Panchayat from August 22, 2024, to August 21, 2025. In preparation for this, an auto announcement was made yesterday in the panchayat areas, informing interested parties about the auction scheduled for today.

Prospective bidders were instructed to submit a Demand Draft (DD) of Rs. 10,000 in the name of the panchayat at the panchayat office to participate in the auction. Four individuals from Kongalnagaram Panchayat - Ramalingam, Senthil Kumar, Suresh, and Danapal - submitted their DDs to the Panchayat Secretary, Mahalinam.
