Coimbatore: In a significant move to combat dengue fever, Mayor Ranganayaki Ramachandran distributed 50 handheld fogging machines and one fogging vehicle to dengue control workers at the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) main office on August 20, 2024. The event was held in the presence of Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS.

The distribution is part of the ongoing intensive mosquito eradication efforts across the 100 wards in the five zones of Coimbatore Corporation - East, West, North, South, and Central. These efforts aim to protect public health by controlling the mosquitoes that spread dengue fever.

Prior to this distribution, the Corporation had already been utilizing 50 handheld fogging machines and 5 fogging vehicles for mosquito control operations. With this latest addition, each ward in the Corporation will now be equipped with one handheld fogging machine, enhancing the reach and efficiency of the dengue control measures.

The Anti-Malaria Scheme (AMS) workers engaged in mosquito eradication will conduct weekly operations using these machines. Their efforts will cover residential areas, construction sites, commercial complexes, government and private offices, and market areas to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

The event was attended by several key officials including Deputy Mayor R Vetriselvan, Corporation Deputy Commissioner K Sivakumar, Public Health Committee Chairman P Mariselvan, City Health Officer (in-charge) Dr. K Boopathi, Zonal Officers Gunasekaran, Andiyappan, Paramasivam, and Radhakrishnan, Health Inspector Rajendran, and other Corporation health officials.
