Kaniyur Sub-Registrar Transferred to Nagapattinam Amidst Corruption Allegations

Damodaran, the Sub-Registrar of Kaniyur near Madathukulam in Tiruppur district, has been transferred to Nagapattinam following protests by farmers alleging multi-crore bribery through brokers.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Registration Department has issued a statement announcing the transfer of Damodaran, the Sub-Registrar of Kaniyur, to Nagapattinam. This transfer comes in the wake of widespread protests by farmers accusing Damodaran of accepting bribes amounting to several crores through intermediaries.

Damodaran, who had been serving as the Sub-Registrar in Kaniyur near Madathukulam in Tiruppur district, found himself at the center of controversy as local farmers staged multiple demonstrations against his alleged corrupt practices. The farmers claimed that Damodaran had been using brokers to facilitate the collection of substantial bribes, leading to growing discontent among the agricultural community.

The transfer order, as per the official communication from the Tamil Nadu Registration Department, is seen as a response to the mounting pressure from the protesting farmers. This move is likely aimed at addressing the allegations and restoring public faith in the local registration office.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by government departments in maintaining transparency and integrity in their operations, especially in rural areas where land registration and related services are crucial for the local population.
