Coimbatore: The body of a former Electricity Board employee was recovered from the Noyyal River near Puttuvikki Road in Coimbatore on July 31. The deceased, identified as Kalimuthu, was a resident of LIC Colony in Selvapuram, Coimbatore.

According to reports, Kalimuthu had informed his wife that he was going for a walk on July 31. When he did not return after a considerable time, his wife contacted their son Anandan. Anandan then inquired with friends and relatives about his father's whereabouts.

Later, one of Kalimuthu's friends called Anandan and informed him that his father had drowned in the Noyyal River near Puttuvikki Road. Shocked by the news, Anandan rushed to the spot and found his father's body.

The Peelamedu police were alerted about the incident. They arrived at the scene, retrieved the body, and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Noyyal River has been flowing at full capacity due to heavy southwest monsoon rains in the region over the past few days. The police have registered a case and are investigating whether Kalimuthu's death was an accidental drowning due to the unexpected water levels or if there are other factors involved.
