Coimbatore: In a significant ruling, the Coimbatore District POCSO Special Court has sentenced a 57-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The incident, which took place near Annur in Coimbatore district, has finally reached its legal conclusion after two years.

The case dates back to 2021 when a complaint was registered at the Annur Police Station against Sampath, aged 57, for sexually assaulting a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. The police promptly filed a case and initiated an investigation.

The trial was conducted at the POCSO Special Court in Coimbatore. After a thorough examination of evidence and testimonies, Judge Kulasekharan delivered the verdict on July 23, 2023. The court found Sampath guilty of the charges leveled against him.

In addition to the 20-year prison sentence, Judge Kulasekharan also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on the convict. This stern judgment is expected to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders and reinforce the justice system's commitment to protecting minors from sexual abuse.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of swift justice in cases involving sexual crimes against minors. It also highlights the effectiveness of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in ensuring stringent punishment for such heinous crimes.
