A herd of wild elephants entered a lodge under construction near Udumalaipettai, on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. The incident, caught on video, has gone viral on social media, raising concerns about human-elephant conflicts in the area.

Coimbatore: In a startling incident near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, a herd of wild elephants broke into a lodge under construction, creating a stir in the area. The event, which occurred on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.

The lodge, situated near a private school on the Kandhalur-Marayur road, has been under construction for some time. In recent days, there has been an increased presence of wild elephants in the vicinity, raising concerns among local residents.

According to eyewitnesses, the herd of elephants entered the lodge premises late last night. Despite the doors being closed, the elephants managed to break them open and roam inside the building for about an hour. Fortunately, as the lodge was unoccupied at the time of the incident, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The video footage of the elephants inside the lodge has been widely shared on social media, drawing attention to the growing human-elephant conflicts in the region. Wildlife experts and forest officials are expected to assess the situation and implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Local authorities have urged residents and travelers in the area to remain cautious and alert, especially during nighttime, when elephant movement is more frequent. The incident has also sparked discussions about the need for better wildlife management and habitat conservation in the border areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
