Murder accused arrested under Goondas Act in Pollachi

Manikandan, accused in the murder of Prabhakaran from Sundarapuram, was arrested under the Goondas Act in Pollachi on July 23, following the recommendation of Coimbatore SP Badri Narayanan.


Coimbatore: In a significant development, Manikandan alias Mani from Tirupur, the prime accused in the murder case of Prabhakaran from Sundarapuram, has been arrested under the Goondas Act. The arrest took place on July 23 in the Pollachi Negamam police station area.

Manikandan was initially arrested and imprisoned for the murder of Prabhakaran. Following this, Coimbatore Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan recommended to District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati that action be taken against Manikandan under the Goondas Act.

Acting on the order issued by the Collector, the police proceeded to arrest Manikandan under the Goondas Act on July 23. He has been subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

This move to invoke the Goondas Act against the accused is seen as a step towards curbing criminal activities and maintaining law and order in the region. The Act allows for preventive detention of habitual offenders and is often used to deal with individuals involved in serious crimes.
