Hindu Makkal Katchi Demands Action Against Late-Night Liquor Sales in Coimbatore

Hindu Makkal Katchi's Coimbatore district general secretary Surya submitted a petition to the District Collector and Police Commissioner, urging action against TASMAC shops selling liquor after 10 PM, citing increased crime rates and public safety concerns.

Coimbatore: The Hindu Makkal Katchi has raised concerns over the illegal sale of liquor in TASMAC shops beyond permitted hours in Coimbatore. Led by district general secretary Surya, the party submitted a petition to the District Collector and Police Commissioner, demanding immediate action to curb late-night alcohol sales.

The petition highlights that TASMAC outlets in Coimbatore district have been selling liquor past 10 PM for the past few months, violating regulations. This practice has reportedly led to an increase in crime rates, with several murders occurring within liquor shops. The party emphasized that alcohol is often a primary factor in many criminal incidents across Tamil Nadu.

The late-night liquor sales pose significant challenges for travelers arriving at bus stands and railway stations, making it difficult for them to reach their destinations safely. The Hindu Makkal Katchi urged the police department to take immediate action to stop this practice and increase patrolling around liquor shops during night hours.

The petition also suggested installing surveillance cameras in front of TASMAC shops to monitor and prevent alcohol sales beyond authorized hours. They proposed implementing a system similar to the CCTV monitoring at major road junctions and traffic signal areas, specifically for TASMAC outlets.

Surya requested the District Collector to consider these proposals and take necessary steps to address the issue. The party believes that strict enforcement of closing times and enhanced surveillance will significantly reduce illegal liquor sales and associated crimes in Coimbatore.
