Inspection of Desilting Work on Canals Connecting Chithiraichavadi Dam and Krishnampathy Lake

Coimbatore Corporation officials inspected the desilting of canals connecting Chithiraichavadi Dam on Noyyal River to Krishnampathy Lake via Vedapatti on July 22. The work aims to improve water flow and storage.

Coimbatore: Officials from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation conducted an inspection of the ongoing desilting work on the canals connecting the Chithiraichavadi Dam to Krishnampathy Lake on Saturday, July 22. The inspection team was led by Deivayani Tamilmarai, the Chairman of the Western Zone of Coimbatore Corporation.

The Chithiraichavadi Dam, built across the Noyyal River, is a crucial water source for the region. The canals running from this dam through Vedapatti to Krishnampathy Lake play a vital role in water distribution and storage. The desilting work is being carried out using JCB machines to remove accumulated silt and debris, which will help improve water flow and increase the water-holding capacity of these canals.

Accompanying Deivayani Tamilmarai were several key officials, including Santhiya, the Assistant Commissioner of the Western Zone, and Rajendran, the Health Inspector. The team closely observed the progress of the desilting operations and assessed the effectiveness of the work being done.

This initiative is part of the Corporation's efforts to enhance water management in the city, especially important given the region's dependence on efficient water storage and distribution systems. The proper maintenance of these canals is crucial for ensuring adequate water supply to various parts of the city and for managing water resources during both monsoon and dry seasons.

The officials expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work and emphasized the importance of completing the desilting before the onset of the next monsoon season. This proactive approach is expected to help in better flood management and improved water storage for the city's needs.
