4 Injured as High-Tension Tower Collapses Near Udumalpet

Four workers were severely injured when a high-tension electricity tower under construction collapsed near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district. The incident occurred during installation work in agricultural fields.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district, four workers sustained severe injuries when a high-tension electricity tower collapsed during installation. The accident took place today in the agricultural fields of Madathukulam Vedapatti area, along the Pollachi-Dindigul four-lane road.

The tower, part of a new high-voltage transmission line bringing electricity from Neyveli to Udumalpet, unexpectedly toppled over while work was in progress. The injured workers, identified as Selvamanikkam, Perumal, Thangaraj, and Sethupathi, fell from the tower and suffered serious injuries.

Local farmers immediately rushed to their aid and transported them to the Madathukulam Government Hospital for initial treatment. After receiving first aid, the injured workers were referred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for advanced care due to the severity of their injuries.

Farmers in the area reported that the installation work had been ongoing for several days, primarily during nighttime hours. They speculated that the use of substandard cables might have contributed to the accident. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols and the quality of materials used in such critical infrastructure projects.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse and the circumstances surrounding the nighttime work schedule. The incident has highlighted the need for stricter safety measures and oversight in high-risk construction projects, especially those involving electrical infrastructure.
