Mock Flood Rescue Drill Conducted at Thirumoorthy Hills Near Udumalaipettai

Fire and Rescue Services conducted a realistic flood rescue drill at Thirumoorthy Hills near Udumalaipettai, Tiruppur district, raising awareness about emergency preparedness among locals and tourists.


Coimbatore: A mock flood rescue drill was conducted at Thirumoorthy Hills near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, simulating rescue operations for people trapped in floodwaters. The exercise, organized by the Fire and Rescue Services Department, took place at the Amanalingeswarar Temple and the Panchalinga Falls area, which are popular tourist destinations.

The Amanalingeswarar Temple is situated on the banks of the Palar River at the foot of the hill. The drill focused on rescue operations and precautionary measures to be taken during flood situations. Temple Executive Officer Amaranathan, temple staff, and local hill tribe residents participated in the event.



Udumalaipettai Fire Station Officer Lakshmanan led the demonstration, with fire personnel showcasing various rescue techniques for people caught in flood waters. They also raised awareness about precautionary measures to be taken during flood seasons.

The realistic nature of the drill initially caused some concern among tourists visiting the area. However, upon learning that it was a mock exercise, they expressed relief and appreciation for the preparedness efforts.

The event served as an important training session for emergency responders and educated the public about flood safety protocols, enhancing overall disaster preparedness in the region.
