Odisha man arrested for possessing ganja for sale near Selakkarichal in Coimbatore

On July 10, Coimbatore police arrested an Odisha native near Selakkarichal for possessing 1.2 kg of ganja worth Rs. 12,000 for sale. The arrest followed a tip-off to Sulthanbetpet police.


Coimbatore: The Sulthanbetpet police in Coimbatore arrested a man from Odisha for possessing ganja for sale near Selakkarichal on July 10. The arrest came following a tip-off received by the police about ganja being brought for sale in the Sulthanbetpet police station limits.

Acting on the information, the Sulthanbetpet police conducted a search operation near Selakkarichal. During the search, they apprehended Binay Barik (40), a native of Odisha, who was found in possession of ganja intended for sale.

The police seized 1 kilogram and 200 grams of ganja from Barik, estimated to be worth Rs. 12,000. The accused was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Coimbatore police to curb the sale and distribution of illegal substances in the city. The case is expected to be registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
