Former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Passes Away

Dr. C. Ramasamy, 77, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, passed away on July 5 in Coimbatore after a brief illness. He served two terms as the 8th Vice-Chancellor from 2002 to 2008.


Coimbatore: Dr. C. Ramasamy, the former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), passed away on July 5 at the age of 77. A native of Vagarai village in Palani, Dindigul district, Dr. Ramasamy served as the 8th Vice-Chancellor of TNAU for two terms from 2002 to 2008.

Dr. Ramasamy was a renowned economist who published numerous international papers. He served as a consultant for World Health Organization projects and was a member of several high-level committees. He also held the position of President of the Indian Economic Association.

During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ramasamy was instrumental in elevating TNAU to international standards. He initiated research collaborations with industries, established private agricultural colleges, and implemented self-financing models for running the university.

Dr. Ramasamy is survived by his wife Chandra and two daughters, Priya Anand and Savitha Lenin. He was admitted to a private hospital two weeks ago following a sudden illness and underwent a minor surgery. He passed away on July 5 while undergoing treatment.

The final rites of Dr. Ramasamy are being held today, July 5, at his residence in Sai Baba Colony, Coimbatore. TNAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Geethalakshmi, along with professors and scientists, have expressed their condolences on his demise.
