Two Individuals Arrested Under Goondas Act for Ganja Trafficking in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, Selvam and Ilayaraja were arrested with 14 kg of ganja for sale. Following a recommendation by the police, they were detained under the Goondas Act by order of the District Collector.

Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Coimbatore Police arrested two individuals, Selvam (44) and Ilayaraja (47), from Theni district, for possessing and attempting to sell 14 kilograms of ganja. The arrests were made by the Karumathampatti police station team. Following their detainment, both were held in judicial custody.

Under the Goondas Act, primarily used to prevent habitual offenders from securing bail and disrupting public order, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, on the recommendation of Superintendent of Badri Narayanan, ordered stringent action against the accused, adding that any activities disrupting public peace or hygiene would lead to similar legal actions.

This measure marks a continuation of intensified enforcement efforts in the region, where, so far this year, 37 individuals have been proceeded against under the Goondas Act as reported by the district police supervision.

The enforcement of such strict actions underscores the district's commitment to maintaining public safety and order.
