Coimbatore Man Dupes Grocery Store Owner of ₹21 Lakh on Pretense of Egg Supply

In Coimbatore, a grocery store owner was defrauded of ₹21 lakh by a man claiming to supply eggs at lower prices from Namakkal. The victim filed a complaint at Selvapuram Police Station on July 1.

Coimbatore: A grocery store owner in Coimbatore has been cheated out of ₹21 lakh by a man who promised to provide eggs at a reduced cost from Namakkal. The victim, Muniyammal, and her husband Perumal, residents of Sivanandapuram Janatha Nagar, run an oil and egg business.

Recently, Ramachet, aged 36, operating a grocery near Selvapuram Arasamar Bus Stop, approached Muniyammal with a lucrative offer to supply eggs at lower rates. Believing his proposition, Muniyammal handed over ₹15 lakh to Ramachet in March. Additionally, it emerged that Ramachet had also taken ₹6 lakh from another individual, Hanees Raghuman, totaling ₹21 lakh.

Despite collecting the substantial sum under the pretext of procuring eggs, Ramachet neither fulfilled the supply agreement nor returned the money, instead procrastinated over time. Following this, Muniyammal lodged a complaint against Ramachet at the Selvapuram Police Station on July 1. In response, the police have registered a case under the charge of breach of trust against Ramachet and are conducting further investigations.
