Coimbatore Golf Club and Siruthuli Honor K. Rajagopal by Planting Over 3000 Trees in Miyawaki Style

Coimbatore Golf Club and environmental NGO Siruthuli have planted 3285 trees using the Miyawaki model at Chettipalayam, Coimbatore, to honor K. Rajagopal. This initiative aims to transform the area into a biodiversity hub.

Coimbatore: In a touching tribute to K. Rajagopal, the Coimbatore Golf Club, together with the environmental NGO Siruthuli, has initiated the 'The Captain's Vanam' project, planting 3285 trees at their premises in Chettipalayam. The initiative aims to honor Rajagopal's work in transforming a barren land into a vibrant green space.

The project involves a diverse range of saplings, including fruit-bearing, flowering, and native species, planted closely using the effective Miyawaki model. This method is known for rapidly creating dense, native forests, and Siruthuli has successfully implemented it in various projects, achieving notable ecological benefits.

The 2-acre plot designated for this green initiative at the Coimbatore Golf Club is set to become a vital biodiversity hub. The dense planting arrangement is expected to enhance local biodiversity significantly, providing ample resources and habitats for various pollinators and bird species. Additionally, the shade from the growing trees will naturally suppress weed growth, improving soil fertility and structure through increased leaf litter.

The event saw participation from the Trust Board members of Coimbatore Golf Club, Siruthuli, family members of K. Rajagopal, and several club and NGO officials. The planting session was also graced with timely rain, adding a serene atmosphere to the heartfelt occasion.
