Six Arrested for Assault at SNS College in Kurumbapalayam

In Kurumbapalayam, Coimbatore, six individuals, including a minor, were arrested for assaulting fellow students at SNS College of Engineering and Technology, using outsiders armed with weapons.


Coimbatore: The peaceful environment of SNS College of Engineering and Technology in Kurumbapalayam was disrupted when a student orchestrated an assault involving outsiders. The incident led to the arrest of six people, including a minor.

The escalation began earlier this month when some students residing off-campus had an altercation over the theft of a cellphone belonging to a student named Praveen. This conflict took an intense turn when Deepak, another student, allegedly mobilized outsiders. Armed with knives and machetes, they stormed a room rented by Vettrivel, a fellow student, and his friends, threatening and assaulting them.

Frightened, the victims locked themselves in the room and raised an alarm. Local residents quickly gathered upon hearing the commotion, which helped disperse the attacking group. Following the incident, a complaint was filed leading to police intervention. The subsequent investigation confirmed the involvement of individuals from different localities, including Pradeep from Kondaiyampalayam, Rakesh from Varadarajampalayam, Santosh from the local coffee shop area, Rahul from Ganeshapuram, and Deepak along with the 17-year-old minor.

Law enforcement swiftly acted, arresting the suspects on June 26. Additionally, the police seized a car and two motorcycles in connection with the assault.
