Public Demands Action Against Interference in Temple Festival Management near Udumalai

Residents of Vanchipuram near Udumalai gathered at the DSP's office demanding action against individuals disrupting the temple festival on February 17. Accusations include threatening behavior and unauthorized collections.

Coimbatore: In a recent public uproar in Vanchipuram near Udumalai, residents congregated at the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police demanding action against a group accused of disrupting temple festival activities. The Thilagavathi Amman and Uchchi Mahakaliyamman temples, along with others in the region, managed by local leaders, have been sites of contention.

Following a temple event on February 17, organized by the local community, allegations surfaced against eight individuals who reportedly engaged in unruly behavior and inappropriate comments towards women. Furthermore, threats of violence were reported during the gathering which intensified local tensions.

The residents had previously filed complaints at the Kaniyur police station against the accused, yet no substantial actions were taken, prompting today's assembly. The group also accused the temple administration of forcefully soliciting donations from devotees under false pretexts, and of hindering temple management operations through threats and intimidation.

As a result, amidst escalating frustrations, residents demanded immediate intervention from authorities to prevent further interference with temple affairs. Following their petition, police assured that appropriate steps would be taken, which led the crowd to disperse.

The temple committee and the locals urge those who interfere with temple activities to respect the religious and cultural importance of these events and refrain from causing disruptions.
