In an operation led by Coimbatore District SP Badrinarayanan, police seized 60 kilos of ganja worth Rs. 9 lakhs on June 16, 2024, from Pollachi East in an effort to eradicate drug sales in the district.

Coimbatore: In a major crackdown against the sale of narcotics, Coimbatore District Police, under the command of SP Badrinarayanan, have successfully captured two individuals and confiscated 60 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs. 9 lakhs. The operation was based on confidential information regarding an incoming supply of cannabis in the Pollachi East police station territory.

The raid was carried out near Marapettai, where the suspects, identified as Rasheed, son of Basheer from Kerala, age 24, and Kaleel Rahman, son of Umar, age 44, were found transporting the narcotics in a four-wheeler. Both individuals were arrested, and the vehicle used for transportation was seized.

Since May 1, 2024, the district police have been conducting special raids, resulting in 92 arrests and the registration of 55 cases involving approximately 174.545 kilograms of cannabis and cannabis-infused chocolates.

SP Badrinarayanan has issued a stern warning against those involved in the sale or distribution of illegal drugs, emphasizing strict legal actions to be enforced.
