New Department of Health Informatics Launched at GKNM Hospital

GKNM Hospital in Coimbatore inaugurated its first-ever Department of Health Informatics on 12th June 2024. The department aims to enhance healthcare through advanced technologies.


Coimbatore: A significant leap towards digital transformation in healthcare was marked by the inaugural of the Department of Health Informatics at GKNM Hospital on June 12, 2024. This pioneering department integrates technology with clinical care using evidence-based standards, remote care services, telemedicine, and data analytics. Additionally, it incorporates sophisticated technologies such as Machine Learning, Business Intelligence, and AI to improve healthcare services.




In the event, Dr Supten Sarbadhikari, a forefront figure in Health Informatics, led a keynote on “Digital Transformation in Healthcare,” highlighting the crucial aspects and benefits of integrating advanced digital solutions in medical practices. Following him, Dr Ragupathy Veluswamy, CEO of GKNM Hospital, discussed the strategic approach towards healthcare digitalization in his Presidential address.






The new department will primarily focus on research in Health Informatics aimed at refining the healthcare ecosystem and advancing digital literacy among healthcare professionals. With distinguished guests like Dr Sundarakumar, Medical Informatics Officer, and Mr Biju Velayuthan, Chief Information Officer, the inauguration was a notable event, setting a new standard in healthcare service provision and management through technology.
