Coimbatore: A shocking incident of theft occurred near the Income Tax Office in Coimbatore’s Race Course area where a sandalwood tree, approximately 20 years old, was found to have been chopped down and stolen early this morning. The area is surrounded by significant establishments including the District Collector's office, various courts, and multiple police department offices making the incident particularly alarming.

The tree was positioned along a footpath that is frequently used by residents for walking, especially during the early morning and evening hours. Locals discovered the felled tree today and immediately reported it to the Race Course Police Station.

Following the report, officers from the nearby police station came to inspect the situation and initiated an investigation. Police are actively using the footage captured by the installed CCTV cameras to track down the culprits, and a special team has been formed to expedite the case.
