Improved Drainage under Flyovers Brings Relief to Commuters in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, recent improvements to drainage systems under flyovers have successfully prevented waterlogging, ensuring hassle-free commutes even during heavy rains.

Coimbatore: Over the past week, Coimbatore has witnessed continuous summer showers, with several areas experiencing prolonged heavy rainfall, especially on days when the Meteorological Center issued orange alerts. While the rains brought joy to the residents, the condition of roads sparked fear due to frequent waterlogging under flyovers at Lanka Corner Railway, Avinashi Road, and Kikani School.

This issue often led vehicles to stall in the water, causing long-lasting problems and damages. Despite various plans implemented by the municipal corporation previously showing no significant results, a new initiative has been set in motion under the guidance of Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran. Whenever there was a report of waterlogging, prompt actions to clear the water were coordinated.

Major efforts included the cleaning of stormwater drains and enhancement of drainage systems. Powerful electric motors were utilized to clear the water, and a prefabricated small bridge equipped with additional drains was installed at Lanka Corner to facilitate quicker runoff.

Thanks to these improvements, even during the intense downpour on the evening of May 22, there was no waterlogging under the flyovers.

This development has significantly eased the concerns of commuters, providing them with a peaceful and uninterrupted travel experience.
