Tirupur: Tirupur experienced heavy rainfall today causing waterlogging in multiple areas and distress to the residents.

Starting with cloud cover in the morning, it soon transitioned to heavy downpour by afternoon, lasting for more than an hour.

The inundation affected areas including Rayapuram, Karuvampalayam, Pichampalayam, Kumar Nagar, Rakkiyapalayam, and Veerapandi, leading to waterlogged streets and homes.

Additionally, the rainfall brought much-needed coolness replacing the heat, which was a relief for the locals.

At the central bus station, some children were seen joyfully collecting and playing with the rainwater, which brought back nostalgic memories among the onlookers.

In specific localities like Jayalakshmi Nagar near Pandian Nagar and Mummurthi Nagar, over 200 families suffered as water entered their low-lying homes. Citizens had to resort to using utensils and buckets to remove water from their homes. In response to the severe waterlogging, the district and municipal administration assured quick action to mitigate the effects, stating that motor vehicles were ready to pump out water.
