Convert Periyanaickenpalayam Railway Station into a Crossing Station: Periyanaickenpalayam Train Passengers Welfare Association

Periyanaickenpalayam Train Passengers Welfare Association requests Southern Railway for station upgrades and train adjustments to better serve the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam route commuters.

Coimbatore: Dr. M. Jaikumar, President of the Periyanaickenpalayam Train Passengers Welfare Association, and Secretary N. Abinaya have formally submitted a letter to the General Manager of the Southern Railway, seeking urgent enhancements to the Periyanaickenpalayam railway station facilities and services. The letter outlined specific demands that aim to improve the commuting experience along the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam section.

These requests include converting the current station into a crossing station with an additional passenger platform and providing a stop for the weekly Mettupalayam - Tirunelveli Special train. Additionally, there is a need to upgrade overcrowded MEMU trains from 8 cars to 12 cars to accommodate the growing number of passengers, primarily consisting of local students and daily commuters.

The association emphasized the high passenger activity at Periyanaickenpalayam station, with approximately 230 daily boarders and 350 to 400 Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science students disembarking each day. Therefore, extending the halt time of MEMU trains at this station from one to two minutes is crucial for safety and convenience. Moreover, the request includes enhancing seating arrangements with appropriate shelter and extending the Pollachi - Coimbatore passenger trains to Mettupalayam.

Thanks to these proposed improvements, the Southern Railway is encouraged to provide significant relief and better transit options to local residents and students who rely heavily on these train services for their daily travel.
