Coimbatore District Administration Mandates Internal Complaint Committees, Rs 50,000 Fine for Non-Compliance

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announces a fine of Rs 50,000 for workplaces that fail to set up internal complaint committees to investigate complaints of sexual harassment.

Coimbatore: In an effort to combat workplace sexual harassment, the Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati, has emphasized the necessity for all government and private sector offices to establish Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs). This directive aligns with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act of 2013. The Act mandates that every workplace with more than 10 employees appoint such a committee, which should be led by a female official and include at least two members along with someone experienced from a relevant NGO.

Establishments failing to conform to these regulations will face a stern penalty of Rs 50,000. Furthermore, these committees must submit monthly reports on complaints received to the District Social Welfare Officer. Workplaces are also required to send annual reports to the same office by the end of each December. This initiative highlights the ongoing commitment to establishing safer work environments for women and ensuring strict adherence to legal provisions against sexual harassment.
