Innovative Theft Incident at Trichy Toll Gate Shocks Car Owner in Kangayam

A car parked at a rental stand in Kangayam was reportedly charged a toll fee while stationary, leading to shock and a police complaint by the owner.

Tirupur: In a baffling incident, a car owner in Kangayam, Tirupur district, faced an unexpected dilemma when his car, parked at a local rental and tempo stand, was charged a toll fee for passing through Ponnamapalayam Patti Plaza in Trichy district, despite being stationary.

The owner, Mahendran, aged 51, claims that he had been waiting for a fare and had not moved the vehicle between 7 AM and 11 AM. However, he received a notification around 11 AM that ₹125 had been deducted as a toll fee.

This unusual incident, denoting a potential misuse of digital toll collection systems, prompted Mahendran to approach the police. The local car operators association expressed their concerns, suggesting if this issue is not addressed, they might take serious actions including staging protests. They urged for a refund and demanded immediate investigation to prevent such incidents in the future.

Authorities are now investigating this peculiar case, which may involve technical glitches or fraudulent activities at toll stations. This incident has also sparked discussions regarding the reliability of digital toll collection systems, which are designed to simplify vehicular movement on highways.
