Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Three Students in Coimbatore

Three students drowned in a check dam near Thondamuthur, Coimbatore on April 24. The students from Theethipalayam Higher Secondary School were swimming when the incident occurred.


Coimbatore: In a heartrending incident near Thondamuthur, three students from Theethipalayam Higher Secondary School tragically lost their lives while swimming in the Mundanthurai check dam.



The incident occurred on April 24, involving students Praveen (17), Kavin (16), and Thakshan (17), along with Sanjay (21), who survived.

The check dam, known to be about 40 feet deep, currently holds about 15 feet of water. It is reported that Praveen, Kavin, and Thakshan, who were unable to swim, drowned in the dam.

The Karunya Nagar Police Department, along with the Fire and Rescue Services, were alerted about the incident. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency teams recovered the bodies of the three victims and transported them to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for postmortem. Following the recovery, the police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to this unfortunate tragedy.
