Intensified Surveillance by Forest Department on Chitra Pournami at Vellingiri Hills

On the occasion of Chitra Pournami, thousands of devotees visited Vellingiri Andavar temple in Coimbatore. Special arrangements by the Forest Department, police, and temple administration ensured order and safety.

Coimbatore: The sacred slopes of Vellingiri Hills saw a surge of devotees who came to participate in the Chitra Pournami celebrations. This annual event attracted thousands of visitors, who climbed the hills to worship Lord Siva at the self-emergent shrine located on the seventh hill adjacent to the Vellingiri Andavar Temple.

The temple at the base of the Western Ghats allows access to the devotees annually from February to May, culminating in bustling activity during Chitra Pournami. Starting from last night, devotees began their ascent, partaking in a vibrant spiritual journey.

Special ceremonies including abhishekams and deeparathanai were conducted in honor of Vellingiri Andavar and goddess Manonmani Ammai, at the self-emergent Lord Siva's shrine on the hill.

Annually, on Chitra Pournami, devotees walk the pilgrimage path to offer their prayers and devotions.

With the anticipated influx of pilgrims, comprehensive arrangements were in place. The Forest Department, alongside temple management and police, made concerted efforts for crowd management and safety. Near the forest checkpoint, parking facilities were organized, and state buses were deployed from the parking area to the temple base to facilitate the movement of devotees.

Further, the Coimbatore forest division in Poondi has employed drone technology to monitor the area ensuring no untoward incidents occur, providing a safe and orderly environment for all who ascend the Vellingiri Hills to worship.
