Coimbatore: A traumatic incident unfolded in Coimbatore as Balakumar, a 38-year-old police officer heading the Investigation Division at Saravanampatti, was found dead in his home. The officer, a resident of Ganapathy area, had been undergoing personal challenges. His wife, employed with a private hotel chain, recently travelled to London following a promotion, leaving Balakumar distressed and managing their two children alone at his parents’ place in Salem.

Reportedly, Balakumar had a tumultuous phone conversation with his wife, resulting in further emotional distress. He last participated in election duties and returned home on April 20. Over the weekend, Balakumar did not show up for work, which was uncharacteristic of him. Concerned by his absence, his parents tried reaching him without success, prompting them to contact the Saravanampatti Police Station.

Following their alert, police visited his residence on the evening of April 21. To their horror, they discovered Balakumar had hanged himself. Authorities swiftly intervened, and his body was taken to a Coimbatore government hospital for postmortem. An investigation into this devastating event is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to his untimely demise.
