1192 Liquor Bottles and 1.07 Lakh Rupees Seized in Coimbatore, 11 Arrested

In Coimbatore, during the Lok Sabha election period, 1192 liquor bottles and cash amounting to Rs. 1.07 lakh were seized amid a crackdown on illegal liquor sales, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals.

Coimbatore: A special operation conducted by Coimbatore police over the past three days, targeting illegal liquor sales, led to the seizure of 1192 liquor bottles and 1.07 lakh rupees. The operation coincided with the Lok Sabha elections, causing Tasmac liquor stores to be closed on April 17th, 18th, and 19th which led some to illegally store and sell alcohol.

During checks in various parts of Coimbatore city on April 19, police raided several locations. An initial encounter near the Vadavalli Veerakeralam Tasmac outlet led to a chase, during which a group attempted to flee upon sighting the police but were soon apprehended. Investigations revealed they had been selling quarter bottles of liquor for Rs. 250 to Rs. 300.

Following the arrests, police filed cases and detained bar suppliers from various places including Sivagangai and Pudukkottai. Two notable arrests were Raja (28) from Shivagangai, and Tamil Selvan (27) from Virudhunagar who had 844 liquor bottles and cash totaling Rs. 1.07 lakhs in their possession. Further enforcement actions led to the arrest of six more individuals from Pothanur, Sundarapuram, Singanallur, and Peelamedu areas. These included Vigneshwaran (31) from Pudukkottai, who along with the others was found with 348 bottles of stashed liquor.

In total, the coordinated efforts of the prohibition enforcement police led to the arrest of 11 individuals and the significant seizure of illicit alcohol and cash.
