Comprehensive Safety Measures for Polling Stations in Coimbatore, Special Attention to Wildlife-Sensitive Areas

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announced integrated safety measures in cooperation with the Forest Department for polling stations near wildlife-affected areas ahead of the upcoming elections.


Coimbatore: In a recent press meeting, Coimbatore District Collector and District Election Officer, Kranthi Kumar Pati, along with senior police officials including Badri Narayanan, District Surveillance Officer, and Stalin, Deputy Commissioner of City Police, laid out the detailed security measures for the upcoming Coimbatore parliamentary elections.

With the campaign ending at 6:00 PM today, Kranthi Kumar Pati addressed the press about preparations for the election scheduled on the 19th. The district features two parliamentary constituencies, Coimbatore and Pollachi, with 2,106,124 and 1,593,168 voters respectively. A total of 3,096 polling stations are installed across the district.



Special attention has been given to polling stations bordering Kerala and the hilly regions due to their proximity to forest areas and potential Naxal activities. Nine polling stations in these sensitive areas are placed under heightened scrutiny with paramilitary forces and special election observers deployed to ensure safety and order.

Facilities such as drinking water, toilets, and shade are available at all polling centers, considering weather conditions for the general public. Additional arrangements like wheelchairs for the elderly and the physically challenged have been made to facilitate easy access during voting.



In areas identified with elephant and other wildlife activities, proactive measures have been coordinated with the Forest Department to prevent any untoward incidents, ensuring a secure and smooth electoral process. Kranthi Kumar Pati emphasized on a hundred percent voter turnout and mentioned various awareness programs conducted in collaboration with private organizations.

Local law enforcement officers have been advised to ensure no outsiders stay in hotels or lodges after 6 PM today in the city areas, conducting checks where necessary. High tension polling stations have been fortified with extra security measures, and rapid response teams are on standby, according to the Deputy Commissioner of City Police, Stalin.
