Udumalai Mariamman Temple Chariot Festival Attracts Thousands of Devotees

The famous Mariamman Temple chariot festival in Udumalai, Tirupur, began on September 9, featuring several rituals including a spectacular Kambam erection event with vast devotee participation.

Coimbatore: The renowned Mariamman Temple at Udumalai in Tirupur district commenced its annual chariot festival on September 9. The festival began with the customary Poochorithal (flower offering) and Nonbu Sattuthal (fasting rituals). The ceremonial erection of the Kambam took place yesterday, marking the event's second ritual.

The decked Kambam was paraded from the nearby Vinayagar Temple next to Udumalai Central Bus Station amid sound and spectacle, proceeding along the Udumalai-Pollachi road to the temple. Once at the temple, the Kambam was carried around the temple thrice, adorned with flowers and finally placed on its pedestal. This was followed by a holy milk ablution (Paalabhishekam) and devotees pouring water at the base, participating enthusiastically in the rituals.

Local police under the supervision of Inspector Jeevanantham took charge of security arrangements, ensuring a safe and orderly ambiance for the gathered devotees.
