Kumaraguru College's Team Sea Sakthi Sets Sail for Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024

Team Sea Sakthi from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, is set to participate in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024 for the third consecutive year, representing India with their innovative energy-efficient boat, Yali 3.0.

Coimbatore: A team of 12 students from Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) in Coimbatore is gearing up to participate in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) 2024. This event, held in Monaco, Europe, challenges participants to develop boat propulsion systems using clean, renewable energy sources. Team Sea Sakthi, representing India, will compete for the third consecutive year with their boat, Yali 3.0, an exemplar of sustainable marine technology.

The boat race, scheduled for the first week of July, will see KCT's team compete against 21 teams globally in the energy class. Their boat, Yali 3.0, designed from scratch, features a fully autonomous twin propulsion system powered by a 10 KW Lithium Ferro Phosphate Battery and utilizes sustainable materials like pineapple and recycled plastic fibers.

The propulsion system of Yali 3.0 is designed for high efficiency and includes features like thrust vectoring for enhanced maneuverability and multiple power modes to optimize energy consumption. The boat can achieve speeds up to 25 knots, with significant improvements in energy efficiency and propulsion from the previous years.

Design innovations include a lightweight cockpit made with natural and carbon fibers to withstand cyclic loads, contributing to the boat's speed and agility. The team has also integrated advanced technologies like 3D lidar and GPS for autonomous navigation, further showcasing their technical prowess.

Team Sea Sakthi has previously won the Communication Prize twice at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and secured a notable 6th place overall. This year, they aim for a podium finish and to retain their title in the communication category, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and sustainability in marine engineering.
