Viral Video of Elephants Camping at Marudhamalai Temple on Tamil New Year Day

In Coimbatore, over ten elephants were seen camping on the pathway to Marudhamalai Temple due to severe drought in the forest area, leading to restrictions for devotees on April 13. Access was restored on April 14.

Coimbatore: As Coimbatore celebrates the Tamil New Year, Chithirai Thirunal, a large influx of devotees thronged the Marudhamalai Temple on April 14. Devotees traditionally journey to the temple through stairs, mountain paths, and temple buses.

This year, amidst extreme drought conditions in the nearby forest areas, a group of more than ten elephants searching for food and water, camped on the temple pathway on April 13. This unexpected visit led to the forestry department setting up temporary restrictions, preventing the devotees from passing through the usual routes to ensure safety for both the elephants and the public.

Following the intervention, the path was cleared for devotees on April 14, allowing resumed access for temple visits. Meanwhile, videos of elephants roaming at Marudhamalai have gone viral on social media, attracting significant attention.
