Coimbatore Artist UMT Raja Creates Awareness with Sunlight Painting Against Vote for Cash

Amidst the fervent vote collection by all parties for the parliamentary elections, Coimbatore artist UMT Raja emphasizes not to sell votes for cash through sunlight painting (using a lens), likening voters to fish caught by bait.

Coimbatore: With the parliamentary elections around the corner, political parties are aggressively campaigning to win votes. Simultaneously, the practice of exchanging votes for cash remains prevalent in various regions, prompting election officials and police to take preventative actions.

In this context, Coimbatore's Kuniyamuthur-based artist UMT Raja took a creative stand against this practice by crafting an awareness painting using solar light and a magnifying glass. The artwork, completed on April 7, serves as a metaphor, comparing voters to fish that get hooked by the bait of cash.

The painting depicts a fish hook with a currency symbol, drawing humans towards it, symbolizing the temptation of money during elections and the consequent loss of future well-being for temporary gains. Raja’s artwork is a powerful reminder of the importance of casting votes conscientiously, without succumbing to immediate financial incentives.
