Tirupur: The Udumalai Government Hospital, located on V.O.C. Street within the Udumalai municipality, Tirupur District, witnessed a significant milestone with the inauguration of a new building worth 9 crores. The facility was originally established in 1944, with subsequent expansions over the years to accommodate various departments and services. The latest addition was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin through a video conference, bringing joy and satisfaction to the local populace.
The hospital has a storied history of expansion, including the establishment of outpatient and inpatient departments in 1972, an emergency and accident care unit in 1984, family planning and surgical units in 1989, a maternity and surgical building with 30 beds in 2012, a neonatal intensive care unit in 2018, a dialysis unit in 2019, a CT scan and oxygen production center in 2021, and an 18-bed ICU ward in 2022. These developments have positioned the Udumalai Government Hospital as a key healthcare provider in the region, receiving a national quality certification in 2022 and ranking 12th in Tamil Nadu with 224 bed facilities.
The construction of the new building, initiated in 2022, includes emergency and accident treatment facilities, a dialysis unit, an emergency surgical theatre, and separate surgical departments for men and women, providing an additional 50 beds. This expansion is part of the continuous efforts to improve healthcare services in Udumalai, aligning with the needs of the growing population.
