Vijayadharani, Vilavancode MLA from Congress, officially joined BJP after meeting with BJP President J.P. Nadda in Delhi, citing Congress's failure to support women's advancement and political participation as her primary reason for the switch.
Coimbatore: In a significant political move, Vijayadharani, the Congress MLA from Vilavancode, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a meeting with BJP President J.P. Nadda in Delhi. Returning to Tamil Nadu, she addressed the media at Coimbatore Airport, elaborating on her decision to leave Congress for BJP. Vijayadharani expressed her dissatisfaction with the Congress party, stating, "I've shifted from one national party to another due to the actions of Congress members, questioning the growth and presence of women in political spheres."
She underscored the contrast in BJP's approach under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Nadda, which prompted her to join the party. Highlighting her long-standing commitment to Congress and the neglect she faced, especially as a woman, Vijayadharani pointed out the internal issues within Congress, including the lack of support for women's representation.
Vijayadharani further criticized the Congress for its handling of women's issues and praised the BJP for its inclusive policies and efforts towards women's empowerment, including legislation for women's reservation and addressing triple talaq issues for Muslim women. She confidently stated that Muslim women would overwhelmingly support the BJP due to its progressive stance on their rights.
