Fire Outbreak at Kariyampalayam Substation in Coimbatore

A fire erupted at the Kariyampalayam substation near Annur in Coimbatore district on the night of February 22, leading to a transformer explosion and causing a temporary power outage in the area. Emergency teams extinguished the fire after a 45-minute operation.


Coimbatore: A significant fire incident occurred at the Kariyampalayam substation, operational near Annur in Coimbatore district, which has been supplying electricity to various towns including Annur, Kariyampalayam, and Kempnayakanpalayam.

The incident took place around 8:00 PM on February 22, when a transformer suddenly caught fire and exploded with a loud noise, sending flames up to 50 feet high into the air.

Following the alert, a team led by Annur Fire Station Officer Balachandran, along with firefighters and electricity board workers, battled the blaze for about 45 minutes. They managed to extinguish the fire by spraying foam, preventing it from spreading further.

As a result of the fire, there was a power outage in the Annur area for approximately 45 minutes. The transformer blaze, which reached up to 50 feet high, caused alarm among the local residents until it was brought under control.
