Dharapuram's Municipality Chairman Pappu Kannan launches infrastructure and utility projects worth INR 4.7 crores under the "Namakku Naame" initiative, enhancing local amenities including water supply and waste management across 56 works.
Coimbatore, February 24 - In a significant move towards urban development, the Dharapuram Municipality in Tirupur district has embarked on a series of infrastructure projects under the "Namakku Naame" initiative for the fiscal year 2023-24. Municipality Chairman Pappu Kannan kickstarted these projects in a ceremony held at Chinna Kadai Street and T.S. Corner, marking the beginning of extensive efforts to upgrade local facilities and utilities.
The launch includes a comprehensive plan to construct new stormwater drains, cement concrete floors, and deep bore wells to ensure adequate water supply, among other essential services. These efforts aim to directly benefit over a thousand families residing in the ward areas of Dharapuram, specifically targeting improvements in the Old Tirupur Road slum areas and beyond.
Among the key projects are the construction of new rainwater drainage systems financed by the State Finance Commission - School Development Fund - Infrastructure Works and the establishment of two additional classrooms at the Ward 17 Valayankaratheru Municipal Middle School under the Swachh Bharat 2.0 scheme for 2023-24. Moreover, Ward 9's Soolaimedu area will see the erection of a new public restroom, significantly enhancing sanitary conditions.
Under the 15th Central Finance Commission's scheme, 14 tar roads will be upgraded, including solid waste management initiatives, cement concrete road constructions, and stormwater drain constructions, spanning wards 1 to 30. These projects, funded through Municipal Revenue and Capital Funds, also include water supply enhancements and drainage improvements across all wards, totaling an investment of INR 4.7 crores for 56 works.
The event was well attended by ward councilors, municipal officials, and members of the public, who were also treated to sweets, celebrating the start of these vital development projects.
