90 percent of Buses Operational in Coimbatore Amidst Transport Workers' Strike

Coimbatore sees 90 percent of its buses functioning normally with the help of alternate drivers, despite the ongoing statewide transport workers' strike.

Coimbatore: Amidst the indefinite strike called by Tamil Nadu State transport workers, demanding the fulfillment of six key demands, Coimbatore's transport sector remains largely operational. Since 6 AM today, approximately 90% of the buses in the Coimbatore division have been running with the help of alternate drivers, including those from unions not participating in the strike.

Authorities have prepared a list of trained external drivers, including retired military personnel, to ensure uninterrupted bus services. This proactive measure has enabled the majority of bus operations to continue as usual.

In addition to this, police forces have been deployed at major bus stations like Ukkadam, Singanallur, and Gandhipuram for public safety and to maintain order. The decision to employ alternate drivers and the increased security presence have been effective in minimizing disruptions to public transport amidst the strike.
