TNAU launched 'One student - One Farm Family Programme (OS-OFFP)'

A Novel Scheme on “One student - One Farm Family Programme (OS-OFFP)” was launched for the First year Under Graduate students of 18 Constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on 02.01.2024. Totally 2395 number of students is enrolled in the First year under graduate degree programme connected the farmers.


Coimbatore: A Novel Scheme on “One student - One Farm Family Programme (OS-OFFP)” was launched for the First year Under Graduate students of 18 Constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on 02.01.2024. Totally 2395 number of students is enrolled in the First year under graduate degree programme connected the farmers.



The objective of the programme includes connecting one student with one farm family so as to facilitate the students for self learning at farm level, real time exposure to the farm activities in villages and pragmatic learning. Two-way learning is facilitated by this programme that the students will have a practical exposure on the farm practices involved in seed sowing till harvest such as cropping pattern, irrigation methods, fertilizer application, farm machineries, plant protection measures adopted by farmers etc.



In turn, the constraints faced by the farmers in farming activities like seed and planting materials, fertilizer application, irrigation methods, pest and disease attack, climate related farm issues will be brought to the knowledge of University scientists and necessary advise will be provided to the farmers to rectify the field problems through the students.



In the launching function, Dr.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor, TNAU interacted with the students and farmers. Besides, the significance of the programme was highlighted that how this programme is going to be a successful scheme for connecting all farm families to the University through under graduate students, benefitting both students and farmers.



Dr.N.Venkatesa Palanichamy, Dean (Agriculture), Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and highlighted about the activities to be taken up under this programme.

Dr.P.P.Murugan, Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore facilitated in connecting the farmers with individual students and proposed vote of thanks. Dr.P.Irene Vethamoni, Dean (Horticulture), Dr.A.Raviraj, Agrl.Engineering College and Research Institute, Coimbatore and Deans of all constituent colleges of TNAU, Nodal officers, first year students of UG programme, farmer representatives from all Districts covering 18 constituent colleges were participated in the launching function through physical/online mode.
