E-Waste Awareness Session Organized by Global Shapers Community and Nirmala Matric School

The initiative was part of the “Shaping My City’s Future” campaign by the Global Shapers Community, a volunteering initiative under the World Economic Forum.

In commemoration of International E-Waste Day, the Coimbatore Hub of Global Shapers Community joined forces with Swachh Bharat Unnat Bharat and Nirmala Matriculation Higher Secondary School to conduct a comprehensive awareness session on household waste management and e-waste collection.

The event, attended by more than 500 students from grades 6th to 12th, aimed to address the challenges posed by waste accumulation and improper disposal while emphasizing the significance of source segregation.

During the session, students received practical demonstrations on source segregation techniques and were educated about composting methods. Additionally, they gained awareness about the importance of e-waste recycling, contributing to their understanding of environmental sustainability.

A remarkable aspect of the event was the active involvement of the students, who not only absorbed valuable knowledge but also actively participated in the initiative. More than 185 distinct components of e-waste, totaling 210 kilograms, were collected from the students. These collected items were subsequently sent to e-waste recyclers, promoting responsible disposal practices and reducing environmental impact.

The initiative was part of the “Shaping My City’s Future” campaign by the Global Shapers Community, a volunteering initiative under the World Economic Forum. This effort underscores the Community’s commitment to fostering dialogue and action within local communities, addressing global challenges at a grassroots level.
