Lawyers in Coimbatore Protest Against E-Filing Practice, Demand Reversion to Traditional Legal Procedures

Lawyers in Coimbatore protest against mandatory e-filing, citing technical challenges and data security concerns. They advocate for a balanced approach integrating traditional methods and modern technology for a fair legal system.

Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu: In a significant demonstration, legal professionals and advocates from various associations in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry converged in Coimbatore, protesting against the implementation of e-filing methods in the local courts. The protest, organized under the leadership of Nandakumar, the head of the federated groups of lawyers, saw a large turnout of lawyers expressing their concerns over the recent shift to electronic filing systems.

The protest, held at the premises of the united district court in Coimbatore, highlighted the collective discontent among lawyers regarding the mandatory adoption of e-filing procedures. Lawyers argue that this digital approach poses additional challenges and vulnerabilities, both for legal professionals and the general public.

One of the primary concerns raised by the protesting lawyers is the lack of comprehensive understanding and awareness about the e-filing process among the legal fraternity and the public. They emphasized the necessity of ensuring a smooth transition, addressing technical glitches, and providing adequate training to all stakeholders involved in the legal process.

Furthermore, lawyers pointed out that the current server-related issues create additional hurdles, causing delays and disruptions in legal proceedings. They emphasized the need for a seamless digital platform and stressed that these challenges must be resolved before implementing e-filing methods on a broader scale.

The protesters also voiced their apprehensions about the potential misuse and exploitation of personal data, calling for stringent data protection measures to safeguard the interests and privacy of individuals involved in legal matters.

In addition to their concerns, lawyers highlighted the importance of preserving traditional legal procedures while embracing technological advancements. They argued that a balanced approach, integrating the strengths of both conventional methods and modern technology, would ensure a more effective and fair legal system.

The protest concluded with a unified call for authorities to reconsider the implementation of e-filing methods, urging a comprehensive review of the current practices and addressing the challenges faced by legal professionals and the public alike.
