The workers demanded payment of wage arrears and abolition of outsourcing system.

Tirupur: Sanitation workers are on a hunger strike in front of the Tirupur District Collectorate, demanding payment of arrears of wages and abolition of the outsourcing system.

More than 500 sanitation workers in six municipalities including Palladam, Vellakoil, Kangeyam, Dharapuram, Udumalaipettai and Thirumuruganpoondi in Tirupur district have not been paid the minimum wages fixed by the District Collector after their outsourcing transfers.

They further alleged that despite repeated representations and talks with the district administration demanding scrapping of the outsourcing system, a solution had not been found thus far.

The 500 sanitation workers from six municipalities are boycotting their duties and are engaging in a continuous hunger strike.

The workers warned that they will continue the hunger protest till their demands are met.
