Environmental activists petition seeking protection of lake in Tirupur polluted with sewage water

They urged to prevent the Moolikulam, spread over an area of 26 acres on the Tirupur-Uthukuli road, from getting polluted by dyeing and sewage water. A petition has been submitted to the Tirupur district collectorate on behalf of Vergal amaipu and social activists.

Tirupur: Nature enthusiasts have submitted a petition to the district collector's office to protect a pond in Tirupur which is getting polluted by dyeing and sewage water.

Muulikulam is spread over an area of 26 acres on the Tiruppur-Uthukuli road. The pond was covered with dye, sewage water and lotuses in the sky and was of no use to anyone.

In 2020, the Tirupur district administration, in collaboration with a private organisation, cleaned the tank, and the bank around the tank was strengthened and a wire fence was erected to prevent anyone from polluting the tank. Because of this, the pond remained unpolluted.

In the last few months, the pond has started mixing with dyeing and sewage water again. Due to this, the pond has started getting polluted again.

The pond has again started getting polluted by the dyeing plant waste water and sewage from the corporation areas without anyone's knowledge at night from the dyeing unit companies and common effluent treatment plants operating near the pond bank.

A petition has been submitted to the Tirupur district collectorate on behalf of vergal amaipu and social activists requesting the pollution control board officials to monitor the matter and urge them to take action.
