The Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Welfare Association has demanded that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should take steps to waive off the existing analog amount completely to protect the livelihood of the cable TV operators.

In 2014, cable TV was digitised across the country after the Union government enacted the Cable TV Regulation Act. In Tamil Nadu, the digital system was introduced in 2017. In this case, they claimed that they had not paid the amount due to them before 2017. The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation issued an order to the local cable TV operators as a measure to collect the same.

A petition was filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Public Welfare Association and some local cable TV operators, seeking a ban on collection activities. In the petition, it was stated that the order was passed without any notice or evidence.

Justice Seshasayee, who heard the petition, on Thursday ordered an interim stay on the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Corporation from recovering the dues from the local cable TV operators (analog).

Speaking to reporters in Tirupur, the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Welfare Association said, there are more than 40,000 cable TV operators operating across Tamil Nadu. In 2014, cable TV was digitised across the country.
