Tirupur: The Minister for Information and Tamil Development inspects the Tirupur Baniyan market fire site - Shops will be opened tomorrow to ensure that traders' livelihoods are not affected.

Tamil Nadu government should provide adequate relief, says street vendors association and affected traders

Kaderpettai, a banian market, is open in Tirupur's Rayapuram area.

A fire broke out in the centre of Baniyan Market here, destroying more than 50 shops. Because of the presence of temporary barricades and a tin jacket, all of the knitwear clothes kept in the shop were thrown into the fire and damaged.

Following this, the district collector, MLA, and Corporation commissioner inspected the area last night and fought the fire for more than two hours. The fire was totally extinguished.

This morning, State Information and Tamil Development Minister Saminathan inspected the site.

He told reporters following the inspection that the fire that broke out last night damaged 50 shops, three houses, and four two-wheelers. It was discovered to be worth around Rs 3 crore, and preparations have been taken to reopen stores in the area tomorrow so that the traders' livelihoods are not affected, he said.

Soon after the incident, the MLA, district collector, Corporation commissioner, and others came to the area and stated that there had been no loss of life or injury as a result of the expedited work. He stated that the district collector will take action on compensation for traders after consulting with the Tamil Nadu government.

MLA Selvaraj then spoke up. "The district administration will continue to do whatever compensation the Tamil Nadu government can do," he stated as an MLA. "I will assist them in any way I can," he stated. He also stated that steps will be taken tomorrow to set up traders' stores so that their livelihood is not affected. As a result, the impacted traders and street vendors association urged that the Tamil Nadu government take suitable compensation measures.
