Wife of accused physics teacher from private school in Coimbatore arrested after 2 years for concealing information

The police arrested the wife of the physics teacher of a private school who was earlier arrested under the POCSO Act in Coimbatore for sexually harassing a minor student who had later ended her life by suicide.

Coimbatore: In 2021, a 17-year-old Class 12 girl student from Ukkadam in Coimbatore allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home.

In a letter recovered from her room, the student explained that the reason for the suicide was due to the continuous sexual harassment by Mithun Chakravarthy, a physics teacher of the private school where she had studied earlier. She had then informed the Headmaster of the school and Mithun's wife Archana about her harassment but to no avail.

The All-Women police registered a case against Mithun under the POCSO Act and lodged him in jail. The police had also arrested the Headmaster of the school, Meera Jackson.

An investigation was then carried out to ascertain the veracity of the girl's letter. Two persons, Manoj Raj and Mohammed Sultan who were also mentioned in the letter and lived near the girl's house were also arrested for sexually harassing the girl when she was a child.

After a period of two years, Mithun's wife, Archana has now been arrested under the POCSO Act for not informing the police despite knowing that her husband Mithun Chakravarthy had harassed his student who was also a minor. Archana was produced before the court and sent to jail.

The police had already collected an audio clip of the girl and Archana in a conversation on their mobile phones.
