Accident while putting up flex banner in Coimbatore - 3 people have lost their lives

Three persons were killed on the spot when the saaram collapsed due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds during the installation of a giant banner of a private company near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore. Two of them were seriously injured and admitted to hospital.



Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, three people were killed in an accident while putting up a flex banner near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district.

The work of putting up giant banners at the place of Ramasamy on avinashi national highway near Vadugapalayam section next to Karumathampatti was carried out this evening. The work is said to have been carried out by Palanisamy, a native of Salem.



The saaram collapsed and fell down due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds during the banner laying work.



Kumar, Gunasekaran and Sekhar, three labourers, after being trapped under the material died on the spot.





The Karumathampatti police, arrived on the scene after getting information, removed the banners and recovered the bodies of the deceased, sent them to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem. Two others who were rescued with serious injuries have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.



Karumathampatti police have registered a case in this regard and are on the lookout for the contractor Palaniswami who is absconding.

People in the area said the accident occurred because the banners were erected at a height that exceeded the permissible limitations.
